Ayar Cancer Institute, Chennai courses offered under University of Madras for PhD and D.Sc. Degrees in the stream of Clinical Research, Biochemical Oncology and Nuclear Medical Oncology. In 1996 PhD course got recognization by the Kerala University. Medical Physics course was also recognized by Kerala University in the year 1975, by Anna University and the University of Madras for PhD degree in the year 1981. Anna University also introduced M.Sc. in Medical Physics combing with Adyar Cancer Institution in 1981 that was first course introduced in India.

Adyar Cancer Institute courses are running through “The College of Oncological Sciences” that was established in the year 1984 just after introducing super specialty course MS and DM as specialized degree course approved by the Medical Council of India . The college affiliation was transferred to The Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R Medical University in the year 1990.

About The Adyar Cancer Institute (WIA), Chennai

Adyar Cancer Institute, Chennai is also known as The Cancer Institute which is based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.The institution was established in the year 1954 under the leadership of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy.In the year 1974, the institution became as Regional Cancer Centre and declared as “Centre of Excellence” by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The institution offers many educational and research-based courses. The college also has its own cancer centre with patient services like outpatient services, diagnostic services, therapeutic services, psycho-oncology, tumor registry etc. The hospital offers 535 beddings offering 40% paying beds and remaining are general beds that are free of cost. The Cancer institute was established more than fifty years ago by Women’s Indian Association Cancer Relief Fund. This charitable fund provide funds for both treating the cancer patient as well for the educational purpose.
