Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Scholarship, commonly known as the "Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship" is offered by Maulana Azad Education Foundation, established in the year 2003-04. This foundation comes under the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India. The main purpose of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to the girls from class 9th to 12th who are meritorious and belong to minority communities.
The emphasis has been given to six minority classes which are Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis, and Jains. The applicant's annual income should not exceed more than 2.5 lakh PA. The selected students will get INR 25,000 per month for two years under JRF and INR 28,000 per month under SRF.

This is a very popular scheme and it is sanctioned by year by year. Till now 5,89,838 girl students have been assisted with INR 504.16 crore by the foundation since its inception. The scheme will be admissible for expenditure on payment of School/ college fees, purchase of stationery/ equipment required for the course, and payment of boarding/ lodging charges.
It is offered by the University Grant Commission for students who are pursuing an M.Phil or Ph.D. program in India. Maulana Azad Scholarship Reward amount is divided into two parts: one for class 9th and 10th and second for class 11th and 12th. For class 9th and 10th students are provided with the amount of INR 5000 per year and for class 11th and 12th are provided with a scholarship of INR 6000 per year.

Maulana Azad Scholarship Mode of Amount
The amount of scholarship will be transmitted to the beneficiary through DBT mode. Another mode of payment amount from the Maulana Azad Education Foundation like payment of fee, transfer in parents/ guardian account through cheque/ DD is not permitted.
Maulana Azad Scholarship selection will be done on the basis of the parent’s/ guardian family income. The selection of eligible students will be on the basis of lower-income criteria and students who have secured a minimum of 50 % marks in the last qualifying examination.
The scholarship will be implemented through the official portal of the Maulana Azad Education Foundation. It is mandatory for all the students to apply online by downloading a form www.maef.nic.in and filling the form offline and posting the same with all the documents to the MAEF office in a given time period.
